Man, this just gets better and better all the time. According to SunRocket, they were trying to sell their subscriber list a month before they went out of business. They did this by shopping their subscriber list to Vonage, Packet8, Teleblend and others to see who would give them the most money for it. Packet8 and Teleblend decided to cut a deal with SunRocket and pay them a fee for every customer they got off of SunRocket’s customer list, but Vonage didn’t.

Now, SunRocket is suing Vonage for using their list without paying for it. You’ve got to just love how crooked Vonage is. First they use patented technology from Verizon without paying for it, and now they are getting sued over using a list that they didn’t pay for.

Read the whole article at TheRegister.co.uk.

According to the suit, filed yesterday with the Court of Chancery in Delaware and tracked down by The Reg, Vonage illegally obtained a list of SunRocket’s former customers after an unsuccessful bid to purchase the list straight from the SunRocket.

SunRocket LLC – the company that stepped into the breach when SunRocket Inc. ceased to exist – seeks “injunctive and declaratory relief,” hoping the court will prevent Vonage from using the list and order the New Jersey outfit to fork over some dough.

When we contacted Vonage, the company was quick to play down the complaint. “We believe the suit lacks merit,” said company spokesman Charles Sahner. “We obtained a VoIP subscriber list through an established marketing list broker. We were assured that the data was legally obtained and could be used without violating anyone’s proprietary rights.”

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention, SunRocket shut down. LOL Believe it or not, there still seem to be some people out there who don’t know that the SunRocket Bankruptcy means that SunRocket is out of business. And, those of you who have figured it out want your money back, but I don’t think anyone is going to get their money back from SunRocket now.

Many of SunRocket’s customers, especially those who don’t hang around VoIP blogs and telecommunications news websites, didn’t even realize that there was a problem until they picked up their phone and couldn’t get a dial tone. So, if you are one of those customers who didn’t know, and are now in need of a new VoIP carrier, here is a list of broadband phone companies who currently have special offers for SunRocket customers.

Voiceral:
3 Free Months! ($70 Value)
Activation Fee Waived! ($29 Value)
Same Day Rush Order Processing! ($10 value)

Zingotel:
Up to 3 Free Months of Service.

Lingo:
1 month free service plus free activation, equipment and shipping.

Teleblend:
They offer the best rates, but I would be careful, since they just showed up a few days after SunRocket died and made a move on all of their old customers.

Wow, that’s gotta hurt, especially when it’s a Sunrocket employee that says it about your VoIP company.

According to Kim Hart, a writer for the Washingtonpost.com, she had a talk with an ex Sunrocket employee who said, and I quote:

that Teleblend didn’t exist prior to SunRocket’s demise, and it is basically a shell company with little customer support. The former employee is urging customers to use caution when choosing a new provider.

If a Sunrocket employee is saying it, then I’m wondering if I was right all along about Teleblend not being quite what they said they were.

The article discusses the collapse of Sunrocket and the fact that Sunrocket offered 2 alternative VoIP companies, Packet8
and Teleblend, to their customers as the best companies to switch their broadband phone service to. What they don’t tell you is that they did this because Packet8 and Teleblend offered to pay them for customers who switched over before a certain date.

I find it very interesting that Sunrocket gives you two choices, then one of their old employees lets it slip that you should be very careful who you choose, while saying Teleblend:

is basically a shell company with little customer support.

Man, you’ve got to love that kind of PR…

Do you think anyone will sign up with Teleblend after reading a statement like that from someone from Sunrocket who should know?

Read the rest of Kim’s article, then go sign up at Packet8 as fast as you can. LOL

Voiceral is offering SunRocket customers the chance to get some of their money back for their old SunRocket annual plan.

OK, they’re not giving you actual money, but they will give you up to 3 free months of service based on the amount of time you have left on your SunRocket Contract. Here is an example:

If you have at least 1 full month left on your Sunrocket contract, they will give you 1 full month of free broadband phone service.

If you have at least 2 full months of service left on your annual SunRocket contract, Voiceral will give you 2 full months of free voip phone service.

And, finally, if you have over 3 months left on your contract with SunRocket, they will give you 3 months of free internet phone service.

Actually, they will do this for anyone who switched from another broadband phone company where they have an annual plan in effect. So, if you have the voip company you have now, and you have only a few months left on your contract, now’s your chance to switch without really losing any money on the deal.

Here is the actual wording of their TOS, which you can read here.

1.2.4 3 Months Free Offer

Customers who have remaining pre-paid time on an annual term contract with a major VOIP competitor (such as Vonage, Sunrocket, Cable Phone, and Lingo) and subscribe to any Voiceral annual plan are eligible for up to 3 free months of Voiceral service. Voiceral will credit 1 free month (up to 3 total) for the number of remaining full months of service you had pre-paid with your previous service provider. You will need to provide proof of the remaining pre-paid time via email or fax, showing the same billing name and phone number that you switched to Voiceral.

Example: Your purchased a 12 month term contract from Sunrocket and switch to any voiceral Annual plan after using 9 months and 15 days of service with Sunrocket. Voiceral will apply the 2 full months of remaining pre-paid time you had with your previous provider as 2 additional months of service on your Voiceral account (meaning you will receive 14 total months of Voiceral service for your purchase of the Voiceral Annual plan).

Example: Your purchased a 12 month term contract from Sunrocket and switch to any voiceral Annual plan after using 2 months and 19 days of service with Sunrocket. Voiceral will apply 3 months of additional service on your Voiceral account (meaning you will receive 15 total months of Voiceral service for your purchase of the Voiceral Annual plan).

The 3 Months Free program is only applicable to new customers who sign up for a Voiceral Annual plan. Service credits will be applied to accounts when the first twelve month term has expired. Cancellations prior to the end of your twelve month term with Voiceral will void any free months of service being posted to the account.

Check them out and tell me what you think.
